Perspective Matters

Do I see what you see?

You are unique.  No one else in the world, through all of time has ever been exactly like you.  This can get deep, fast.  Think of the sum of you - your physical person, the experiences of your life, your thoughts, feelings, travels, time with friends and more, starting as early as you can remember til now.  You are incontrovertibly unique.

So?  I like to set the baseline before moving forward.  If you get you are unique, then you understand everyone else is too.  I promise I’m going somewhere with this - please hang in there.

Your perspective matters.  It matters to you.  When you look at your life, the world and the people in it, how you see them is important.  No one will see it like you.  Is the glass half empty, full or does it even exist?  Is the world round or flat?  Which political party is best or is there no such thing?  Which country is superior?  In what way(s)?  Is exercise good or bad?  How about dessert?  Pro-life or Pro-choice?  Dog, cat, hamster, tiger or pet bear?  City living or country?  You have a perspective on each of those questions (no perspective is a perspective) to which no one can take away your right.

I like my perspective on things.  I love it in fact.  Adjacent to this, I have this thought experiment that if we could all be 100% objective with each other, or uninhibited by our emotional responses (more to come on that), sharing and discussing our perspectives with the goal of expanding, and being open to changing them, then that might be one of the richest interactions in which people could engage.  Imagine how much more we could achieve together!

But, there’s a real, primal challenge in that. Stay tuned…
